Test Developer - Math Specialist

The Test Developer - Math Specialist is a position in the Content & Assessment Services Department, and is responsible for performing functions including item development, item and test production, item alignment, and image editing. The Test Developer - Math Specialist reports to the VP of Operations.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Assists in all aspects of adaptive learning environment (ALE) item and vanfile development and delivery including authoring and producing new items regularly and aligning items to state and local standards.

    Assists in all aspects of technology enhanced item development (TEI) including training and coaching of other team members on authoring, production, and design methodology.

    Engages in video production for instructional purposes, and trains and coaches others on using the tools needed for uniform video production.

    Uses feedback from multiple sources to review and revise items

    Approve items for use on tests, evaluating both content and psychometric properties

    Provides alternative descriptions on item media objects to satisfy ADA requirements

    Leads efforts to create, collect, use, position, upload, optimize, and catalog media elements, including item images, videos, and audio.

    Participates as a contributing member of scrum teams.

    Ensures that all completed work is at presentation standards for online and offline delivery.

    Contributes to Police and Fire item development, exam assembly, printing, scanning, scoring, and reporting.

    Understands project scopes to set timelines for production, content development, and review assignments and ensures that deadlines are met without compromising quality.

    Completes clerical tasks as necessary to support project and departmental activities and goals.

    Creates and edits images as required.

    Maintains content documentation and records.

    Own all VCCS Math content needs such as project plan, item production, item piloting, test building, pathway content, instructional video alignment

    Understand the market and align our math content & assessments

    Review, evaluate, and improve (if necessary) our current suite of math assessments (blueprints, item alignment to standards, item quality)

    Identify gaps in our math item banks (standards that need new / additional items) and fill in those gaps (seek existing items that can be used / develop new items)

    Develop calendar and processes for periodic test reviews and refreshes

    Identify and address staffing / resource needs, including the need for external item writers

    Manage the selection, onboarding, and day-to-day oversight of external item writers

    Participate in customer meetings to provide specific math guidance and support

    Suggest new functionality or product improvements to best support math assessments (test creation as well as test taker experience)

    Miscellaneous tasks as assigned


Qualifications/Skills: 

    Baccalaureate in Mathematics, Calculus or other related field

    Experience in educational setting strongly preferred

    Commitment to quality

    Strong verbal and written communication

    Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and Microsoft Visio

    Strong technical skills, including html proficiency; knowledge of xml preferred 

    Image editing and media management skills

    Strong time management skills

    Ability to multitask effectively
