We are actively seeking an experienced professional to join our team as an ELA Test Developer/Editor.  Based out of our Langhorne, PA office and under the direction of the VP of Operations, this individual will be responsible for developing content, writing reports, managing projects, and providing editorial feedback on documentation.

Job Duties:

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Item Writer/Editor is responsible for performing functions including editing, quality control review, and creation and adherence to style guides and review criteria.

  • Write and review ELA test items; evaluate item acceptability after pilot testing
  • Create police & fire standards-based multiple choice items
  • Assist in all aspects of item and test review including content editing both online and paper format
  • Produce items, align items, create images and support other production activities as needed
  • Respond to client and /or student inquiries regarding test items or tests
  • Promote proper test development procedures
  • Reference items to textbooks
  • Manage and maintain all style guides and review criteria
  • Maintain language and context that is level appropriate
  • Attend meetings for projects and assignments that have a content management or editorial role in order to fully understand the scope of work
  • Set editorial timelines for review assignments and ensure that deadlines are met without compromising quality
  • Maintain product/client specific stylistic guidelines and review criteria, and manages the review process through sign off
  • Understand project scopes to best tailor activities to meet timelines/deadlines
  • Work directly with other departments as needed to complete tasks thoroughly and on time
  • Analyze processes and procedures to suggest innovative approaches for increased efficiency
  • Ensure that all completed work is accurate and of the highest quality
  • Submits weekly reports including summary, status, and risks
  • Other duties as assigned


  • BA/BS in English or Journalism
  • Attention to detail

  • Familiarity with style guides; Chicago Manual of Style recommended

Nice to Have

  • Experience in holistic scoring to a defined rubric
  • Previous teaching experience or item writing experience is heavily preferred
  • Knowledge of item statistics to evaluation of items and assembly of tests
